2018 LETITIA WOODS BROWN MEMORIAL BOOK, ANTHOLOGY, AND ARTICLE PRIZE

The Association of Black Women Historians is pleased to announce the 2018 Letitia Woods Brown Prize for the best book, anthology, and article in African American/African Diaspora women’s history.  The competition is open to all books, anthologies, and articles concerning African American/African Diaspora women’s history published between June 1, 2017, and May 31, 2018, including those written by members and non-members of ABWH.  The prizes are awarded annually.

Authors should ask their press to nominate their book and any member/non-member can nominate a book or article.  Whether nominated by individuals or presses, a copy of the book must be received by each member of the committee by the below stated deadline

To nominate a book or anthology, please email Dr. Sharon Harley at sharley@umd.edu (put ABWH BOOK PRIZE COMMITTEE in the subject line) for addresses of the committee members to send copies of books or anthologies. To be considered for the book or anthology prize, each committee member must receive a copy of the nominated book by the June 15, 2018 deadline (no exceptions).

To nominate an article, email a PDF copy of complete article with letter of nomination to brownarticleprize@gmail.com prior to the June 15, 2018 deadline.

Winners will be notified no later than August 10, 2018, and honored on Saturday, October 5, 2018, at the ABWH graduate reception and awards ceremony during the 103rd Annual Meeting of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) in Indianapolis, Indiana.
