 ABWH was conceived in 1977 when three Black women historians, Rosalyn Terborg-Penn, Eleanor Smith, and Eleanor Parker, recognized the need for a specially focused organization within their profession.

ABWH BOOKLIST

As incoming National Director, 

Dr. Stephanie Y. Evans initiated the ABWH Booklist project. 


The purpose of this project is to recognize, read, and reference books by ABWH Life Members. This project is allows readers to explore past scholarship and identify how extant work can inform future research. 


ABWH has over 500 members—almost half are life members. The ABWH Booklist is comprised of 300 books.
