#MLKDay Message from 2019 ABWH National Director Erica Armstrong Dunbar

Dear ABWH Members,

I thought a lot about our membership today.

As much of the nation took the day to be intentional about service, I thought about the service that we do every day. We teach, we write, we direct, we archive, we collect, and we produce history that has been erased or ignored. We are the Association of Black Women Historians−a network of scholars that encompass every region of the nation. We are everywhere. Our work is everywhere.

I am honored to walk in the footsteps of our past directors and I will do my very best to move our organization forward. We will continue to merge sound tradition with the newness of the present and the future. ABWH excites me.

Our membership is fortunate to have a new and dynamic Executive Council:

Shennette Garrett-Scott, National Vice Director

Natanya Duncan, Treasurer

Jessica Klanderud, Secretary

Jessica Johnson, Membership Director

Felicia Jamison, Parliamentarian

Kali Gross, Publications Director

Erica Ball, Western Regional Director

Cherisse Jones-Branch, Southern Regional Director

Elizabeth Todd- Breland, Midwestern Regional Director

Siobhan Carter-David, Far Eastern Regional Director

Maria Hammack, Graduate Student Representative

We have already started to plan and to busy ourselves with the work of the organization. You have entrusted the leadership of ABWH to us and we understand it to be no small charge. We thank you for your support and your faith in us.

I look forward to getting to know the membership and to having more opportunities to see you and hear from you. Please take a moment to click on the video link below for a more personal message:

All my very best,

Erica
